A campus marketplace built to make student life easier, cheaper, and more connected.
ShopUni started on a campus with three students who were tired of watching brilliant student entrepreneurs struggle to reach buyers who were right there, just a few buildings away.
The idea that started everything
Every university campus in Nigeria is its own small economy. Students sell food, fashion, beauty products, electronics, services, and more on campus every single day.Â
The demand is real. The supply is real. The hustle is real.
But the infrastructure? Broken.
Student vendors were posting on Instagram and hoping the algorithm would be kind. They were sending WhatsApp broadcasts to contact lists that had not saved their number. They were shouting into campus Facebook groups that nobody was searching. Buyers — students who genuinely wanted to support their fellow students — had no reliable way to find who was selling what, where, and for how much.
The transaction was happening anyway. Just badly.
Three of us saw the same problem from the same campus. That problem gave birth to ShopUni.
The problem was clear — student commerce needed a better home

Student commerce was scattered across platforms never designed for buying and selling, making product discovery slow and unreliable.

Without verification systems or accountability measures, students conducted transactions with unvetted sellers and no protection mechanisms.

Messages were lost in noise. Status updates expired. Group chats became unusable. The infrastructure simply wasn't built for commerce.
